SHOOTING

Battlefield 3

Battlefield 3
(commonly abbreviated BF3) is a first-person shooter video game developed by EA Digital Illusions CE and published by Electronic Arts. It is a direct sequel to 2005's Battlefield 2, and the twelfth installment in the Battlefield franchise.
The game was released in North America on 25 October 2011 and in Europe on 28 October 2011 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.[4] EA Mobile also confirmed a port for the iOS platform. The game sold 5 million copies in its first week of release,[5] and received critical acclaim from most game reviewers. It is the first game in the series that does not support versions of Windows prior to Windows Vista as the game only supports DirectX 10 and 11.[6] The PC version is exclusive to EA's Origin platform,[7] through which PC users also authenticate when connecting to the game.
In campaign mode, players take on the personas of several military roles; a Force Recon Marine, an F/A-18 weapons system officer, an M1A2 Abrams tank operator, and a GRU Spetsnaz operative. The campaign takes place at various locations, from Iran to New York, and follows the story of Sergeant Blackburn and later, Dimitri Mayakovsky.

 Borderlands 2
Borderlands2boxart3.jpg
Borderlands 2 is a space western first-person role-playing shooter video game that was developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games. It is the sequel to 2009's Borderlands and was released for the Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms.

Borderlands 2 builds upon the gameplay elements introduced in its predecessor Borderlands. It is a first-person shooter that includes character-building elements found in role-playing games, leading Gearbox to call the game a "role-playing shooter." At the start of the game, players select one of four new characters, each with a unique special skill and with proficiencies with certain weapons.[2] From then on, players take on quests assigned through non-player characters or bounty boards, each typically rewarding the player with experience points, money, and sometimes a reward item. Players earn experience by killing foes and completing in-game challenges (such as getting a certain number of kills using a specific type of weapon). As they gain levels from experience growth, players can then allocate skill points into a skill tree that features three distinct specializations of the base character.[3] As with the first game, Borderlands 2 features a procedural-generated loot system, whereby weapons and other equipment dropped by foes, found in chests, or offered as quest items have numerous statistics that are generated randomly, affecting factors such as weapon damage, accuracy, magazine size, and added effects like elemental damage. Randy Pitchford, noting that the procedural system in the first game generated 17.75 million possible guns, claimed that the variation in Borderlands 2 is much larger.[4]
Returning gameplay features from the first game will include the 3-branch skill trees, class-mods, and four-player online cooperative modes. New features include a more expansive and customizable weapons system, reworked four-seat drift-able vehicles and vehicle physics elements, and dynamic mission systems. For example, taking too much time to save a friend in a mission may result in their death and the failure of the mission, which will affect the story as the player progresses. Technically, the game world will be all connected, rather than loadable levels for each region, allowing accurate viewing of the entire world from a given point rather than the first game's premade "Skybox."[2][3]
In addition, the artificial intelligence (AI) system has been reworked for the game. Non-enemies will populate the game world more often and will travel around different locations depending on the time. According to Gearbox VP Steve Gibson, enemy AI will encourage teamwork, such as flanking, as well as taking cover when wounded, though lower level enemies like Psychos will still embrace the mentality of, "Wow that's a gun! I want my face in front of it!".[3] Shooting enemies will stun or cripple them depending on where they are shot, such as shooting a Hyperion robot's arms will cause the arms to fall off, impairing its damage-dealing capabilities. For a change, enemies will be intelligent enough to climb and traverse difficult terrain to pursue the player. Enemies will also be able to interact with each other. For example, certain enemies can heal their teammates, boost their shields for defense, or use them as shields to protect themselves.[2][3]

As a follow-up to Half-Life: Counter-Strike, one of the most successful PC titles of 2000, Counter-Strike: Condition Zero takes the game to a new level. Both a single and multiplayer game, Counter-Strike: Condition Zero puts a special counter-terrorist operative under your command and you must neutralize any threat that comes along. Rescue hostages, escort VIPs to safety, disarm bombs, travel through hostile environments, and more.

Still tied to its Half-Life parent, Counter-Strike: Condition Zero is the most modified and enhanced version of the game engine yet, featuring more detailed player models, new skin and customization options, and atmospheric effects. Each map is available to many different play modes: players can complete missions with a friend in co-op mode, play on the Internet in multiplayer mode, or practice in skirmish mode.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Counter-Strike Global Offensive.jpg

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is an online first-person shooter developed by Valve Corporation and Hidden Path Entertainment, who also maintained Counter-Strike: Source after its release. It is the fourth game in the Counter-Strike franchise, excluding Counter-Strike Neo and Counter-Strike Online.
Global Offensive was released on 21 August 2012 and made available for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Xbox 360 via the Xbox Live Arcade and a U.S. version only on the PlayStation 3 via PlayStation Network. It features classic content, such as old maps, as well as brand new maps, characters and game modes. It supports matchmaking and leaderboards.[4] An Elo rating system prioritizes matching players by skill.[5] Cross-platform multiplayer was planned between Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and PlayStation 3 players,[5] but was ultimately limited to PC and Mac due to the differences in update frequency between the systems.[6] The PlayStation 3 version offers three input control methods, which include using either the DualShock 3 controller, PlayStation Move or USB keyboard/mouse.

Left 4 Dead

Cover (Left 4 Dead)
Living up to the multi-faceted meaning of the title, Left 4 Dead features four playable human characters, who have been left behind to survive in a city with a rapidly growing population of people-eating undead. The characters are identical in the way they play, although outwardly they appear largely dissimilar and unlikely to get along well at first. They'll need to trust one another and work together, as it takes teamwork to survive in streets overrun with rampaging zombies. Computer-controlled companions are available for solo players, but online multiplayer co-op games are a main thrust of play. In a standard game, players begin each level in a safe room area, where they can stock up on supplies and agree on a general strategy before moving out into the zombie-flooded city streets.

No place is safe for too long in this game, however, and once the zombies start coming, they keep coming, no matter where the players run or hide -- until the heroes make it to the next safe room, to end the level. The exact progression through each level is not known from the start. A built-in artificial intelligence "Director" analyses the players' positions and creates new challenges on the fly, making each game a little different and adding creepy factor of the unknown. Friendly fire is painfully possible, so players need to be careful where they aim and shoot. Sometimes, in close quarters, a quick melee attack is a safer way to temporarily stave off encroaching undead or knock a hungry zombie off a companion. Each player can carry only one health pack, which can be used for self-repair or to heal a teammate.

Left 4 Dead was developed by Valve Software, built on the studio's Source game engine. In addition to the four-person survival-horror shooter, other available modes of play allow multiplayer competition for up to eight, with one team of four playing as the human survivors and the other four players taking the roles of infected boss zombies. Each boss zombie has a different special power, such as a prehensile tongue or an explosive belly full of corrosive swamp gas, encouraging them to combine their strengths and work as a team, just like the unfortunate human beings they are hunting.

Left 4 Dead 2

Cover (Left 4 Dead 2) Four weary humans work together in an apocalyptic world overrun by grotesque zombies, collectively known as the "infected," in this sequel to 2008's third-person shooter, Left 4 Dead. In addition to the new protagonists and five new campaigns, the game offers more enemy types to battle and adds a slew of weapons to improve your chance of survival. Joining the hunters, tanks, smokers, and boomers from the first game are jockeys, chargers, and spitters. Jockeys are short creatures that leap on the backs of characters and steer them toward dangers. Chargers are hulking brutes that run quickly toward characters and use their powerful arms to slam victims to the ground. Spitters spew out projectile acid that can also form deadly pools on the ground.

Each campaign area, ranging from a Coney Island-style amusement park to a Louisiana bayou, also contains distinct enemies to face. The "Dark Carnival" campaign, for example, features zombies wearing clown makeup, while "Swamp Fever" features creatures known as mudmen. New weapons and tools include a katana, baseball bat, grenade launcher, hand axe, Desert Eagle, military sniper rifle, chainsaw, MK17 assault rifle, and a defibrillator to revive fallen foes. In addition to the co-op campaigns and both the survival and versus modes from the original, Left 4 Dead 2 introduces a new multiplayer mode entitled "scavenge." As a survivor, your goal is to locate and collect 16 gas cans on each map before time expires, all while user-controlled members of the infected try to thwart your progress.

Crysis

Cover (Crysis)
The developers of Far Cry return to the first-person shooter genre in their first game for publishing giant Electronic Arts. The year is 2019 and a massive asteroid has crash-landed somewhere within North Korea. Soon it is revealed that the asteroid is in fact a gigantic alien vessel whose malevolent mission is to eradicate mankind. As part of a covert Delta Force squad from the United States, players must fend off alien advances through tropical jungles, frozen terrain, and other climate-altered regions in an attempt to board the gravity-free mother ship. Created using Crytek's proprietary game engine, Crysis offers a dynamic world featuring earthquakes, tornados, landslides, and breakaway ice. The perpetually changing environment requires adaptive techniques for the squad to survive, and players can commandeer trucks, tanks, boats, helicopters, and other vehicles to help reach their objectives. The alien AI is also designed to challenge, adopting real-world military tactics and coordinating attacks to fight as an enterprising entity. Crysis features a number of options for soldiers in combat, with the ability to grab and use nearly any item found in each destructible environment. Online multiplayer support is available for up to 32 combatants, and a toolset is included for creative players to construct levels for use in either solo or multiplayer action.

Rage is a first-person shooter set in a post-apocalyptic world. You'll battle an assortment of mutants, creatures, and gang members with a mix of conventional and unconventional weapons, from pistols and shotguns to crossbows with electric arrows and an edged boomerang called the "wingstick." Also featured in the game are armored dune buggies and ATVs, allowing players to more easily traverse the deadly environments, engage in car combat, and enter optional races to earn money and increase their fame. The world in Rage features two main cities, large expanses of hostile terrain, and several adjacent outposts.

In addition to the single-player campaign, which spans an estimated 15 hours in length, Rage features two multiplayer game types. In "Rage Combat Rally," you'll use the game's vehicles to shoot down rivals, cross checkpoints, and more. "Legends of the Wasteland" is a two-player co-op mode featuring eight scenarios set in different areas from the solo campaign.

Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad

Tripwire Interactive's WWII-era first-person shooter series continues by showcasing what proved to be a turning point in the war, and of the deadliest single engagements in the history of warfare, in Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad. The main campaign focuses on the events leading up to and surrounding the Battle of Stalingrad, allowing gamers to join the German army as it assaults Stalingrad, or follow the Russian forces as they repel the attack and deal a major blow to the Axis forces.

Developers tapped the "Unreal 3" proprietary engine in an attempt to accurately portray the action, including the use of first-person cover that allows for peeking and blind fire, realistic WWII weaponry with true-to-life ballistics and bullet penetration, squad command and flanking, and a morale system that takes into account the mental stress placed on soldiers embroiled in deadly conflict. Other single-player modes include shooting-range and assault-course challenges designed to help gamers hone their skills, earn awards, and win competitions, while a "Skirmish" mode lets players try out any level or campaign. Online features include multiplayer co-op in campaigns or skirmishes, competitions, leaderboards, and persistent stat-tracking and player progression, with the best of players earning a "Hero" rank that allows for access to the best weapons.
